Art and Archaeology in Ancient Egypt

Course Description

This course brings ancient Egypt to life through its art, architecture, and material culture in their archaeological contexts. Covering more than three millennia—from the predynastic era to the Roman period (c. 4000 BCE–30 CE)—we will trace how religious beliefs, political change, social life, and encounters with other cultures shaped Egyptian civilization. Temples, tombs, palaces, and everyday settlements will guide our journey, highlighting the artistic achievements and historical developments that made Egypt one of the most remarkable civilizations of the ancient world. Students will engage extensively with artifacts, images, written works, and museum collections, developing critical skills for analyzing visual and material culture.
