Concepts, Theories, and Methodologies of Sociolinguistics
Course Description
Intro to core concepts, theories, and methodologies of sociolinguistics,one of the major subfields of contemporary linguistics. We willexamine of how language reflects social characteristics and categories including age, gender,socioeconomic status, regional affiliation, race and ethnicity, individual and groupidentity, and style. Broad topics include multilingualism and language contact, regionallinguistic differentiation (dialectology), language variation, language change, and languagepolicy and planning.
